<p>The Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI) is a key part of the new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), one of the main flagships of the European Green Deal, and a pillar of the New Industrial Strategy for Europe. Through the public consultation, the Commission and Trinomics are gathering opinions from the public and stakeholders on the main policy options for a proposal of a Sustainable Products Directive that might be published still before the end of 2021.</p>

<p>After two events outside Europe (2017 USA, 2019 China), the 11th International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Domestic Appliances and Lighting (EEDAL) conference returns to Europe in 2021. The pandemic has obliged EEDAL to move its conference from November 2021 to June 2022. It would offer an opportunity to address Indoor Environmental Quality for a public that involves policy makers.</p>

<p>The main objective of the ANTICSS project is to detect and prevent circumvention behaviour. Within the project the notions of circumvention and jeopardy effects have been identified. A few Room Air Conditioners and Liquid Chilling Packages have been subjected to applicable and alternative testing to detect circumvention, as have been other products. The consultants are now looking for the industry views on the recommendations they would present to the policy makers.</p>

As part of the European Green Deal, and to achieve a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, the Commission will table a ‘Fit for 55’ package to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030. The second revision of the RED II will contribute to achieve climate neutrality. The 2009 RED envisaged a 20% share of renewables in final energy consumption by 2020, the 2018 RED I a 32% share and the draft RED II is looking for approximately a 40% share.

<p>On 3 May, the European Commission submitted to Member States representatives under the ‘comitology’ procedure a ‘Commission decision on a sectoral reference document on best environmental management practices, environmental performance indicators and benchmarks of excellence for the fabricated metal products manufacturing sector’. Eurovent has requested access to this draft and would receive this by 7 June at latest.</p>
